Couple in Triangle at NASA to Wed

A former space shuttle astronaut and a woman who the authorities say was the target of a widely publicized kidnapping attempt by a romantic rival for the astronaut’s attention are planning to get married, a lawyer for the prospective bride said.

The lawyer, Kepler Funk of Melbourne, said on Friday that his client, Colleen Shipman, and William A. Oefelein, the former shuttle pilot, have gotten engaged but have not set a wedding date. The couple now live in Alaska.

Ms. Shipman and Mr. Oefelein first came to public attention in February 2007 when Lisa Nowak, a Navy captain who had also flown aboard the space shuttle, was arrested after being accused of trying to kidnap Ms. Shipman.
