Exploration Experience MD, VA, SC Tour Charleston Harbor Fest
Charleston, SC, June 26 - 29 - Over 2600 visitors came to see the NASA’s Exploration Experience at Harbor Fest in Charleston, SC June 26-28, 2009. The festival is one of most recognized tall ship events in the country and harkens back to the original explorers of our home planet. NASA hosted visitors to both a virtual tour of our future endeavors as well as hands on demonstrations of what we are doing today. Paying no mind to the scorching heat and high humidity a colorful variety of visitors stopped through the NASA exhibit for a quick round of both information and education.

Become a Pilot Day, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
Chantilly, VA, June 19 - 21, 2009 - NASA’s Exploration Experience was very well received by visitors and personnel of the National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center during the weekend of June 19-21, 2009 as 1900 visitors took a step inside NASA’s plans for the future of human space exploration. On the first day of the visit, several museum docents received a personal tour and information session as preparation for the including the Exploration Experience as a last stop on their guided tours throughout the day. Early morning storms on Saturday only served to usher in visitors as more than 16,000 people piled in for the Udvar-Hazy Center’s “Become a Pilot Day” with 850, near capacity for the exhibit, stopping by to tour the Exploration Experience. Momentum continued on the final day with more museum docents stopping by for personal tours and information sessions, and the exhibit playing host to several student and international groups visiting the museum. In addition to the Exploration Experience, visitors also took part in a “Robots on the Road” demonstration led by Traveling Education Specialists from the Aerospace Education Services Project. ESMD Outreach Coordinator Kenzi Mayberry was interviewed by Swiss TV Correspondent for the USA, Francois Jeannet, who also spoke with exhibit staffer Guy King from Johnson Space Center, and several enthusiastic visitors and museum personnel after their tour of the Exploration Experience.

Ocean City Air Show

Ocean City, MD, June 13 & 14, 2009 – Despite the cloudy skies and a low aerial ceiling that cancelled the Ocean City Air Show in Ocean City, Maryland on Saturday, June 13, 2009, the NASA Exploration Experience welcomed hundreds of visitors that day as they toured the exhibit in order to learn more about our nation’s space program and its future plans. The weather on Sunday, June 14 was more cooperative with the Atlantic ocean serving as the perfect backdrop for the air show as the weekend total of spectators to the event was estimated at 500,000. The NASA Exploration Experience finished the weekend at capacity as it saw roughly 1,200 visitors with several others stopping by to ask questions about the Constellation Program and the new Ares launch vehicles.

In addition, Outreach Coordinator Kirk Pierce was interviewed by local FM radio station 92.1 WAVE "The Wave."
